Dog Man is a comedic children’s graphic novel series created by Dav Pilkey, an American cartoonist, and author. The first book in the ongoing series was released in 2016 and published by Scholastic Corporation.

The Dog Man book series follows the adventures of a dog/human hybrid cop who is protecting the city in which he resides with his friends.

The Dog Man series takes place in the same fictional universe as Captain Underpants. According to the lore, the two protagonists of Captain Underpants, George Beard and Harold Hutchins, created Dog Man when they were in kindergarten.

Dav Pilkey’s Biography

Dav Pilkey, or David Murray Pilkey Jr., is an American cartoonist, illustrator, and author of children’s literature. He was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and was brought up in a conservative Christian household.

As a young child, he was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. He was also frequently reprimanded at school for his behavior in class. His antics at school ended up becoming the inspiration for the Captain Underpants character.

Other than the Dog Man book series, Dav Pilkey is also the creator and illustrator of Captain Underpants, Dumb Bunnies, Cat Kid Comic Club, and Ricky Ricotta’s Mighty Robot.
