Demon Slayer Books in Order: Koyoharu Gotouge’s Manga Series

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a Japanese Manga that is written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge.

Initially, the manga series was serialized in the shonen manga magazine ‘Weekly Shonen Jump’ from 2016 to 2020. Later on, its chapters were collected into 23 volumes. As of 2021, this series has over 150 million copies in circulation.

This makes Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the ninth best-selling manga series of all time. In 2019, the manga was also adapted into a 26-episode anime that received both critical and commercial acclaim.

A sequel film called Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train was also released in 2020.  At the time it became the highest-grossing anime and Japanese film of all time.

The story follows Tanjiro Kamado, a kind-hearted and intelligent boy who becomes the breadwinner of his family after his father’s death.

However, one night everything changes when his entire family is attacked and slaughtered by a demon. The sole survivor of the attack is his younger sister, Nezuko, who is turned into a demon who shows signs of human emotion and thought.

Now, it is up to Tanjiro to avenge the death of his family and turn his sister into a human being again.

About Demon Slayer Manga Book Series

“Demon Slayer” is a popular Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge. The story follows a young boy named Tanjiro Kamado, who becomes a demon slayer after his family is brutally murdered by demons, leaving only his younger sister, Nezuko, as a survivor.

Who is Tanjiro and Nezuko Kamado?

Tanjiro Kamado is the protagonist of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba. He joined the Demon Slayer Corps in order to find a way to turn his sister back into a human being and eventually find the demons who killed his other family members.

As the series progresses, Tanjiro swears to defeat Muzan Kibutsuji, the king of demons, to prevent others from suffering the same fate as him.

Nezuko Kamado is the second main character or deuteragonist of the manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. She is the younger sister of Tanjiro and one of two remaining members of the Kamado family.

In the attack where the rest of her family is slaughtered by Muzan Kibutsuji, she is turned into a demon who fiercely guards her brother against other demons.

Koyoharu Gotouge’s Biography

Koyoharu Gotouge is a Japanese Manga artist who is best known for writing and illustrating the manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

The author likes to maintain their anonymity in public and were included as “Phenoms” in Time’s annual list of 100 Most Influential People, becoming the first manga artist to receive this achievement.

They have listed Hideaki Sorachi’s Gin Tama, Hirohiko Araki’s Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, and Masahi Kishimoto’s Naruto as having a major influence on their work.

1) Cruelty (2018)

Cruelty is the first book in the Demon Slayer manga series. It tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a kind-hearted young boy who must make ends meet by selling charcoal.

However, one fateful day, his peaceful existence is completely shattered when he returns home to find his entire family murdered by a demon. The only survivor of the attack, Nezuko, his little sister, has turned into a demon herself.

2) It Was You (2018)

The second installment in the Demon Slayer manga series, It Was You, tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado as he tries to pass the final selection test in order to join the Demon Slayer Corps. His search for the demon that slaughtered his family leads Tanjiro to investigate the disappearance of several young girls in a nearby town.

3) Believe in Yourself (2018)

In Believe in Yourself, Tanjiro and Nezuko cross paths with two powerful demons that fight with magical weapons and who claim to be a part of the Twelve Demon Moons, a group that directly serves Muzan Kibutsuji, the demon responsible for slaughtering the Kamado family. Will the siblings procure valuable information about Muzan from the two demons?

4) Robust Blade (2019)

Will Tanjiro be able to find out about the fighter behind the boar-head mask? Later in the book, during a new mission, Tanjiro and his companions head towards Natagumo Mountain to have a confrontation with a mysterious and horrifying threat.

5) To Hell (2019)

At Natagumo Mountain, Tanjiro and his companions must battle the terrible family of spider demons. Tanjiro and his demon-slaying companions require all of their luck and skill to fight these vicious demons and save Nezuko. The battle also draws in several other demon slayers.

6) The Demon Slayer Corps Gatherers (2019)

Muzan, the King of Demons, starts assembling his minions to intensify his search for Tanjiro.

7) Trading Blows at Close Quarters (2019)

Some of the members of the Demon Slayer Corps have learned a new technique known as ‘Total Concentration.’ This will help them immensely on their next demon-hunting mission aboard the Infinity Train, which takes them into the dreams of demons.

8) The Strength of Hashira (2019)

After dealing with many of the demons on board the Infinity Train, the Demon Slayers must face the demon spirit of the train itself. Tanjiro must continue to improve his strength and skills as Muzan grows closer.

9) Operation: Entertainment District (2019)

In this installment, the Demon Slayers visit an entertainment district where they encounter Tengen’s female agents who are gathering information on a demon. Tanjiro and the other demon slayers must disguise themselves as women in order to sneak in and investigate.

10) Human and Demon (2020)

Tanjiro and the Demon Slayers are able to nab Daki, a demon that has terrorised the residents of the entertainment district for years.

11) A Close Fight (2020)

Tanjiro and the Demon Slayers are overwhelmed by fighting just one of Lord Muzan’s Twelve Kizuki. How will Tanjiro be able to face two demons alone?

12) The Upper Ranks Gather (2020)

Muzan dispatches the remaining members of the Twelve Kizuki on a mission. Elsewhere, Tanjiro and the Demon Slayers enter a village full of swordsmiths in order to get his sword repaired by the swordsmith who made it.

13) Transitions (2020)

Tanjiro and the Demon Slayers are attacked in the hidden village of a swordsmith by two strange shape-shifting demons.

14) The Mu of Muichro (2020)

Tanjiro is still without a sword. As the swordsmith continues to repair Tanjiro’s sword, Tanjiro and the Demon Slayers engage in a ferocious battle with two upper-rank demons.

15) Daybreak and First Light (2020)

In Daybreak and First Light, Tanjiro finally has a showdown with the main body of the upper-rank demon Hantengu. However, as the sun rises, his sister’s life is threatened.

16) Indestructible (2020)

Tanjiro must begin his training to become a high-ranking member of the Demon Slayer Corps. However, training is both intense and demanding, and Tanjiro must work extremely hard to win his teacher’s approval.

17) Successors (2020)

Every member of the Demon Slayer Corps enters the Infinity Castle to defeat Muzan. Will Shinobu be able to defeat the Upper-Rank 2 Demon, the same demon that killed her older sister?

18) Assaulted by Memories (2020)

Tanjiro awakens the Transparent World in order to defeat the Upper-Rank 3 demon.

19) Flapping Butterfly Wings (2020)

The Demon Slayers struggle to get themselves closer to Muzan’s neck.

21) Ancient Memories (2021)

The Demon Slayers have finally defeated the highest-ranking demon in Muzan’s army. However, the fight against Muzan is far from over, and the Demon Slayers, who are under new leadership, must quickly recover from their losses.

22) The Wheel of Fate (2021)

The Demon Slayer Corps is finally face-to-face with their greatest enemy, Muzan Kibutsuji. It is a desperate fight as several Demon Slayers perish, and Tanjiro is taken out of the fight before he gets killed too.

23) Life Shining Across the Years (2021)

The last installment of the Demon Slayer manga series, Life Shining Across the Years, follows Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps in a last-minute desperate effort to find a way to kill Muzan before he destroys the Corps from within.
