Daniel Silva is an American novelist born in Michigan in 1960. He graduated from Fresno State University with a degree in international relations and began his career as a journalist, working as a foreign correspondent in the Middle East for United Press International and later CNN.
Silva began writing spy thrillers in 1996 with his first novel The Unlikely Spy. His breakthrough came with his second novel The Mark of the Assassin (1998) which introduced to the world the character Gabriel Allon, an Israeli art restorer, spy and assassin who would go on to be the protagonist of all of Silva’s subsequent novels.
The Gabriel Allon series follows the adventures of Allon as he travels the world working for Israeli intelligence.
The series often deals with threats to Israel and themes of terrorism, counter-terrorism, and the preservation of Jewish heritage.
